Yet, it was through art and short stories, that Alberto would make his own music and explore his curiosity with painting and literature as a child. Inspired by the spiritual icons that adorned his local church, he would rush home from Sunday Mass and render them in great detail. He would also paint from book covers and make up stories to add to his watercolor and pencil illustrations; a hobby he pursued well into adulthood, and after a three year stint in the Army, under the G. I. Bill, he decided to enroll in the popular School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. And although he majored in Fine Arts, it was his writing class that had become his primary focus. Writing however, would take a back seat to a twelve-year career as a graphic designer. An experience that helped him capitalize on a commercial venture, which in turn led him to his own Freelance Advertising and Copywriting business, where writing once again was at the forefront. His experience as a freelance graphic designer, and his writing samples helped him secure a job as head copywriter, writing advertorials which appeared weekly in two New York daily tabloids. It was during this time when he began experimenting writing screenplays. His first was an ode to Frank Sinatra, "The King of Hoboken", and another, “Sleepers,” written on-spec with Mel Gibson in mind at the time for the lead role. Both of these works are in re-write stages for current marketing possibilities. Alberto currently dedicates most of his time developing another novel and a memoir. His debut novel "A Death For Beauty", is scheduled for publication and will be offered via Amazon.com in January of 2009. |
